WOW! What an awesome evening filled with excitement, energy and glamour!
The 2nd Annual Prince & Princess Fashion Show & Contest was held Friday night, April 3rd, at the Clintondale High School Auditorium. Parents and guests were treated to a spectacular display of fashion and glamour. Sponsored and hosted by Jireh Community Center, the Prince & Princess Fashion Show is an opportunity for families, schools and the community to come together for a common cause: to celebrate families and children.
The evening began with a warm welcome from George Sassin, Superintendent of Clintondale Community Schools and an invocation by Reverend Arnita M. Traylor from Vinson Chapel A.M.E. and continuing with a musical tribute by Brandon Rose.
Founder and Mistress of Ceremony, Gerrie Brown, President of Jireh, glittering in a stunning black sheath of beads and glitter, simply sparkled and began the program with the introduction of a special guest, Miss Michigan Jr. Pre-teen Mackenzie Rose Caprara. Miss Caprara sparkled in a fairy gown creation in teal and looked stunning in her sash and tiara.
Commentators for the event were Sheriff Mark Hackel, Napoleaon Harrington, Lou Moss, and Valerie O’Neal.
The fashion show extravaganza began with an array of fashion that ranged from casual to formal wear. All of the kids sparkled. This reporter saw more than one candidate for America’s Next Top Model!
The Prince & Princess contest was next and the judges had a hard time deciding who to vote for. Judges for the event were Eric Jackson, Angela Olsen, Lisa Perry, and Brenda Smith.
Contestants had to write an essay and submit a copy of their Report Card or latest Progress Report. These items were judged separately before the event, and then they had the chance to present themselves to the audience and judges.
Finally, each contestant was given a question to answer. It still was not easy to make the decision though.
Finally the winners were chosen…. Drum roll please….
Presenting the awards to this year’s Prince and court was Sheriff Mark Hackel. The 2nd runner up awarded to Eric Alfred, with the 1st runner up Christopher Collins, and the winner Marcus Lusk. Marcus’s question “If you could have anything in the world what would it be?” to which he took the time to think about his answer and reply that he would like everyone to get along together, impressing the judges and winning the contest.
Presenting for the Princess and her court, last year’s winner Miss LaKayla May, dressed in a stunning peach chiffon gown, she radiated pride and presence. The 2nd runner up was awarded to LaKira Modock, 1st runner up Dejanee Collins and the winner Mariah Day. Her question “Who are the two people you look up to?” to which she answered “Mrs. Karen Hessler, principle of Robbie Hall Parker school and her Mom.” The auditorium was abuzz with excitement.
Congratulations to the participants and contestants of the Prince & Princess Fashion Show and Contest. We are so proud of you all for making this event a success. You all looked fabulous.
